First Baptist Church is actively involved in mission in our City, State and around the world through such projects as: Work groups to a sister church in Costa RicaSponsoring visits by folks from Costa Rica to St. Paul A scholarship fund, Compañeros en Misión, at the Caribbean Theological Center in Limón, Costa Rica.Nurses' scholarships to the River Kwai Hospital on the Thai-Burmese border Sponsorship and partnership with refugees from Burma living in St. Paul, assisting families in their resettlement, housing and transportation needs. We are also creatively partnering family to family.Providing temporary housing in the church building for newly arrived refugees. The Downtown Childcare begun over 35 years ago by the First Baptist Church continues to provide a safe and healthy environment for families with young children.House of Mercy, sponsored a few years ago by First Baptist Church as a new church plant, targets young adults and the growing artist community downtown. Worship services are 5:30 PM Sundays. The Garden Club has designed and created the lovely flower beds and the landscaping around the church building and is now working with the city in the design of the new Wacouta Commons ( a new urban park directly south of the church). First Baptist Church is an active participant in the downtown community partnering with social service agencies such as Dorothy Day Center, Naomi Family Center, Martha's Closet, Listening House, and SafeZone on a variety of projects. We have sponsored a midweek noontime worship service in the skyway system, hosted welfare reform meetings, public forums, and concerts. We cooperate with other downtown congregations in providing ecumenical worship services. |
